1. General information
In this subject, the student is expected to become familiar with the basic legislation applied to the profession, as well as the ethical principles and deontological rules that allow them to act in accordance with them in the exercise of their profession. In addition, the student will be able to learn about the different management tasks that they may have to face in the development of their profession, whether in healthcare, teaching and/or research, with special emphasis on all those related to the start of a self-employed professional activity.
These approaches and objectives are aligned with the following Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations' Agenda 2030 ( htpps://www.unorg/sustainabledelopment/en/) in such a way that the acquisition of the learning results of the subject provides training and competence to contribute to some extent to their achievement: Goal 3: Health and Wellness; Goal 5: Gender equality; Goal 10: Reduction of inequalities; Goal 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions
2. Learning results
In order to pass this subject, the students shall demonstrate they has acquired the following results:
1. Know and understand the current legal and ethical framework to perform the functions and responsibilities of the professional in Physiotherapy, properly using the resources in the hospital and outpatient setting, in primary and community care.
2. Understand that professional practice in an ethical manner, respect people, patients and users, and take into consideration the professional codes of conduct of physiotherapists.
3. Know the professional, ethical and legal context of the physical therapist, recognizing and responding to ethical dilemmas and issues in daily practice.
4. Preparation of documents with legal and social repercussions, and of the expert report.
5. Know the framework of management in Physical Therapy.
3. Syllabus
MODULE 1: LEGISLATION APPLIED TO THE PHYSIOTHERAPY PROFESSION
UNIT 1: Introduction to law
UNIT 2: The health care act
UNIT 3: Professional Responsibility
UNIT 4: Legal documents in physiotherapy.
UNIT 5: Sanitary legislation
UNIT 6: Social legislation applied to disability
UNIT 7: Civil and criminal legislation applied to disability
UNIT 8: Labour legislation
MODULE 2: ETHICS AND DEONTOLOGY APPLIED TO THE PHYSIOTHERAPY PROFESSION.
TOPIC 9: Ethics, deontology and bioethics
TOPIC 10: Bioethical issues and conflicts
MODULE 3: MANAGEMENT IN PHYSIOTHERAPY
TOPIC 11: Management in physiotherapy
4. Academic activities
The subject will be developed through two types of academic activities. The master class (40h) will be used to explain those legal and ethical aspects that students should know for their professional future. The practical seminars (20h) will mainly address practical ethical and mainly managerial issues that they will have to face in their future professional practice.
In addition to the lectures, students will have to carry out a group work that will be coordinated with the seminars of the subject, so that these seminars will serve as a common thread for the elaboration of the group work.
5. Assessment system
The student must demonstrate that they have achieved the expected learning results by means of the following assessment activities. They must pass each one of them separately:
1. EXAMINATION OF THEORETICAL CONTENTS (70%)
There will be a written test that will have a weight of 70% of the final grade, and must be passed to pass the subject.
2. GROUP WORK
Group work on a topic proposed by the teacher and/or the students (resolution of a problem, exercises and/or case study) related to the management part of the subject (20% of the grade) and which must be presented orally to the rest of the classmates (10% of the grade). . The total of this part will add up to 30% and must be passed independently to pass the subject ().
